William Tyndale is credited with translating the Bible into English. Banned from working on it in England, he worked instead in Germany, he translated and printed, between 1525 and 1535, half the Old Testament and all of the New Testament. Many copies of this translated Bible were smuggled into the UK but the church destroyed them and Tyndale was condemned as a heretic and strangled and then burnt in Brussels in 1536. Despite this, significant amounts of his work were used in the production of the King James Bible in 1611.

The Monument looks down from atop a hill in the village of North Nibley, Gloucestershire. The day we visited it wasn't possible to climb the tower though normally you can though you must collect the key from a shop in the village.
